A 2009 Churchill County High School graduate and military veteran was unanimously approved as judge pro tem for the New River Township Justice Court in Churchill County.
The Churchill County Commission took action on Judge Ben Trotter’s request to appoint Anthony Tisdale at their Dec. 7 meeting.
Until the appointment, Dr. Stu Richardson was the only judge pro tem in Churchill County. The commissioners hare empowered to select a number of qualified people to comprise a panel of substitute justices of the peace.
Trotter, who was first elected as justice of the peace in 2018, said anyone from the panel may be selected by him to act on his behalf in case of temporary sickness or absence or a conflict of interest.
Trotter said Tisdale is a 2009 Churchill County High School graduate who is interested in the legal field. Tisdale graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and graduated from the Brigham Young University Law School in 2015 with a Doctor of Jurisprudence.
“He is a fighter pilot for the Nevada Air National Guard and flies for Fed Ex where he happens to be today,” Trotter said. “I have known Anthony for approximately 20 years when he came through the Fallon Police Department’s Explorer Program. As sheriff, I gladly hired him into our reinvigorated Reserve Deputy Program.”
Trotter served two terms as sheriff from 2011-19 before assuming his position as justice of the peace.
Tisdale said he has been in the Air National Guard serving as an F-15C and A-10C fighter pilot currently stationed at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Las Vegas. He is in a drill status with the Air Guard.
Tisdale, who currently lives in Fallon, also served as a volunteer police explorer with the Fallon Police Department throughout high school
“I love the community and am excited to serve and support the justice court,” he said.
Trotter said Tisdale had expressed interest in a pro tempore position with the justice court.
“I emphatically accept him to the position,” Trotter said. “His qualification for the position is unquestionable.”
