Victim ID'd in Dayton residential fire on Christmas

At 7:06 p.m. Monday, Central Lyon County Fire Protection District was dispatched to reports of a residential structure fire at 180 Railroad St. in Dayton. Units from Stations 39 and 35 responded within six minutes of the original 911 call and immediately performed rescue operations to extract an individual from within the residence. Upon arrival, the structure was well involved in fire and resulted in extensive damages. Firefighters were able to locate and remove the victim from the structure. Ultimately, the victim succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The victim is identified as William Storrs, 73, of Dayton. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office notified the next of kin on scene and reports the cause of death is pending investigation.

The fire is out and Central Lyon Fire personnel have conducted clean-up operations. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nevada State Fire Marshal Division in partnership with investigators from the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District’s Prevention Office.

First responders acted swiftly and put forth an effort to perform the rescue operation and extinguish the fire. Lyon County, Central Lyon Fire Protection District and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office joins the community in mourning this tragedy.
