Letter: Heat pumps

Finally, “Ask Dirk” wrote about what people should know about heat pumps. Not only are people asking about heat pumps, but heat pumps are being successfully installed instead of replacing their gas furnaces.

Almost six years ago I was told by local HVAC companies installing a heat pump instead of replacing my furnace was NOT a desirable option in our cold climate. They convinced me to stay with a gas furnace. Well, after just receiving a $300 heating bill for November I’m not looking forward to $400 to $500 heating bills when it really gets cold!

My advice is find an efficient heat pump for our climate region and also find the available discounts for them before your furnace breaks down. Then install a heat pump instead of staying with a gas furnace, because our gas bills are only going to increase.

And, if you’ve chosen your heat pump correctly, you’ll have cooling for your house next summer as a bonus. Start at this link which provides much useful information to get started on your heat pump: https://homes.rewiringamerica.org/projects/heating-and-cooling-homeowner#learn-more.
