A Fallon man died Feb. 8 when the car he was driving ran a red light and struck a semi trailer, according to a news release from the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol.
Jacob Tyler Fischio, 26, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash at U.S. Highway 50 and Sheckler Road in Fallon, the release said. He was pronounced deceased on scene.
According to the release, on Feb. 8 at 6:25 a.m., state police responded to the crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that a black Honda Civic sedan driven by Fischio was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 approaching the intersection with Sheckler Road. A white Peterbilt towing three trailers was turning left from northbound Sheckler Cut Off to westbound U.S. 50.
The Honda failed to yield to a red light and entered the intersection, striking the left side of the third trailer being towed by the Peterbilt. The driver of the Peterbilt did not sustain injuries.
It is the fourth fatal crash and fourth fatality in 2023 for the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Northern Command.
