The Child Development Center at Western Nevada Community College plays an important role at the school and in our community. Rotary Club of Carson City members will learn about the center and its future at the club’s next meeting which takes place Tuesday, January 31st at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend.

Director Anna Lisa Acosta-Rogers will talk about the center’s role at the college and its connection to community, as well as its focus on the development of each individual child. “We focus on all areas of development; emotional, intellectual, physical, and social growth,” she said.  “Each child develops at their own pace and we work with each one to make sure they are meeting their individual development goals.”

Acosta-Rogers has over 20 years of experience in early childhood development and has been with the WNC Child Development center for more than five years. The center provides services to college staff, students as well as the general public. It also serves as a resource for parents by providing child behavioral and developmental information.

Acosta-Rogers will also discuss future plans for the facility. “Our preschool playground is roughly 20 years old and is in need of a facelift. We are hoping to put in a new play structure, garden, and update some concrete work,” she said, adding the playground is about more than just fun. “It will help us continue to focus on physical development, science exploration, and social skills and math skills.”
