For the third year in a row, Fallon will host a regional baseball tournament when teams from five states visit the Oasis of Nevada.
The Pacific Southwest Regional 11U All-Star Tournament will take over Oats Park starting on Monday with a four-day round-robin schedule before the top-two teams in each of the three pools advance to the single-elimination bracket. Bracket play is on Friday and Saturday with the championship game at 3:30 p.m. The winner advances to the World Series.
Fallon’s 11U all-star team won the state tournament over Spanish Springs last month in Reno. Fallon and Spanish Springs will represent the Silver State.
Fallon is no stranger to hosting these tournaments after welcoming the 12U division last summer and 13U two years ago. Fallon also hosted the state tournament last year.
Teams will check in on Sunday, exchange pins, have dinner and then conclude the night with a skills competition before games begin the following day.
The field is divided into three pools and each team will have three games.
Pool “A” consists of Fallon, Northern California’s No. 2 team, Southern California’s No. 1 team and Central California’s No. 1 team. Pool “B” includes Arizona, Central California’s No. 2 team, Hawaii’s No. 1 team and Utah. Pool “C” includes Southern and Northern California’s No. 1 teams, Spanish Springs and Hawaii’s No. 2 team.
Four games kick off the first day of the tournament on Monday, and Spanish Springs will play its first game that night at 7 against Southern California’s top team, Heartwell. Fallon doesn’t play until Tuesday night at 7 when it takes on Central California’s No. 1 team, Visalia Blue.
Fallon will play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, the last day of the round-robin portion of the tournament.
The top-two teams in each pool will be as outlined in the Babe Ruth rulebook: win/loss record. If there are ties, they will be first decided by head-to-head competition and then total fewest runs allowed. If a tie still remains, then the run differential tiebreaker will be used.
The third-best No. 2 and No. 1 seeds will meet each other in Game 1 on Friday at 3:30 p.m. followed by the second-best No. 2 and top No. 2 seeds facing off in Game 2 at 6 p.m. The Game 1 winner takes on the overall top seed on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by the Game 2 winner facing the second-best No. 1 seed at 12:30 p.m. The championship is at 3:30 p.m.
