Reina Dao, a fourth grader at Fremont Elementary School in Carson City, recently qualified for the U.S. Kids World Championship to be played in August at Pinehurst Golf Course in North Carolina.

To qualify, the 10-year-old won the IMG World Qualifier and NNGA tournament, plus posted the lowest score among 180 players at the Nevada State Invitational.

Coached by Dan Challgren, head professional at Sunridge Golf Course, Dao also will play a tournament at Torrey Pines in early July.

“I first met Reina at a First Tee event when she was only 5,” Challgren said in a news release.

Sunridge Golf Course is hosting a nine-hole, two-person scramble on June 25 to help support Dao’s travels. Donations also will be accepted in the Sunridge clubhouse.
