In partnership with the UNR’s Center for Economic Development and the Nevada chapter of the American Planning Association, Carson City Community Development is hosting a speakers panel to discuss careers in land-use planning for youth and young adults 4 to 6 p.m. June 28.
The event is free and will be held in the Bonanza Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Food will be served. Space is limited. Those interested should register online at www.carson.org/landuseplanner or email planning@carson.org or call 775 887-2180.
The speakers will discuss how they started their careers, what skills they use and what they do as land use planners, according to a press release from Community Development. The panel will consist of Scott Carey, state lands planner for the Nevada State Land Use Planning Agency; John Krmpotic, principal and founder of KLS Planning & Design; and Hope Sullivan, director of Carson City Community Development.
“Planners work in every state and around the world,” says the release. “They work in rural areas, suburban areas and large cities. They function in the public sector within federal, state and local governments. They also work in nonprofits and within the private sector in real estate development companies and planning or multi-disciplinary consulting firms.”
