CCSO: 5 people, including homicide suspect, arrested in traffic stop

A California homicide suspect, a man wanted on a Lyon County felony warrant and three others were arrested after a traffic stop in Carson City on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

Navdip Kahira, 36, the driver, is wanted on a Lyon County felony warrant. A female juvenile passenger, 17, who CCSO said attempted to conceal her identity, is wanted on a homicide warrant in San Joaquin, California. A male juvenile passenger, also 17, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.  

Two more juveniles were arrested at a motel as part of the investigation.

On Wednesday, June 28 at around 5:39 p.m., a Special Enforcement Team detective noticed a vehicle committing an improper stop at a red light near North Carson and West Musser, the release said.

The detective noticed that the driver, later identified as Kahira, began driving evasively after appearing to recognize the detective in his unmarked patrol vehicle as law enforcement. The detective began following the vehicle speeding 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. As the car stopped at Carson and Musser streets, it failed to stop properly.

During the traffic stop, the detective and a second SET detective responding to assist conducted a search of the vehicle, uncovering a methamphetamine pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue.

As part of the investigation stemming from the traffic stop, detectives of the Special Enforcement Team, detectives of Investigations, and Special Weapons and Tactics team members served a search warrant on a room at Motel 6, apprehending two male juveniles, 17 and 14 years old, after locating several grams of marijuana in plain sight, the release said.

The news release did not identify any of the juveniles who were arrested.
