Silver Springs schools locked down after false gun report

Three schools in Silver Springs were put in lockdown Wednesday after a student was reported to have a gun, according to a release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. The report was determined to be false.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a student with a firearm at the Silver Stage Middle School on Wednesday at about 12:20 p.m., the release said. All three schools in Silver Springs went into a precautionary lockdown. The student in question was cooperative and no gun was found.

It was later determined by the investigating deputies that the threat to the school was false. A sweep of the school was conducted to ensure the safety of the students and staff. There is no threat to the school staff, students, or public at this time, the release said.
