Dayton High baseball snags first win over Wooster

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Dayton baseball mounted a four-run comeback Saturday to take down Wooster, 5-4, in walk-off fashion.

The Dust Devils loaded the bases with their first three hitters before senior Jacob Moore, who went 3-for-4, singled in the second run of the game.

Garrett Cowee followed with a single of his own to right field, driving in a run.

Isaac Perry reached on an error, allowing Dayton to tie the game at 4-4.

After a fielder’s choice put two outs on the board, junior Ty Francis singled to center field, driving in the game-winning run. It was Francis’ second hit of the game.

On the bump, Moore went six innings and allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 12.

UP NEXT: Dayton (1-4-1) will play at Truckee (1-2) March 28 in a non-league contest.

Douglas High baseball loses to La Mirada

The Tiger baseball team fell in its Monday matchup in Southern California against La Mirada, 9-4.

Douglas trailed, 9-0, before plating four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Owen Evans had a two-run double, which scored Jeffrey Peters and Keegan Freeman.

Sean Lemming drove in Evans on a sacrifice fly before Jacob Davis drove in a run on a single to left field.

The Tigers did not play their final scheduled game on Tuesday and will return home against Galena on Saturday for an 11 a.m. first pitch.

Dayton softball cruises past Wooster

The Dust Devil softball team moved to 2-0 on the season after an 18-2 win in three innings over Wooster on Saturday.

Dayton scored 17 runs in the second inning before hitting the run rule.

Senior Cheyenne Clayson was 3-for-3 with five RBIs in the win, while Casandra Hernandez was 2-for-2 with four RBIs of her own.

In addition, Dana Micone drove in three runs while Kali Stott and LaSade Conti each knocked in a pair of runs.

Sierra Lutheran baseball bests Mineral County

In an 18-11 win over Mineral County on Wednesday, the Sierra Lutheran baseball team combined for 20 hits, six going for extra bases.

Leading the way at the plate was Charles Gagen, who went 4-for-6 with five RBIs, two doubles and a triple.

Allen Morales and Hayden Erven each had three hits for the Falcons and drove in a run apiece. Junior Paul Mueller was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Last Saturday, Sierra Lutheran lost both ends of a doubleheader to currently undefeated Smith Valley.

The Bulldogs took the first meeting, 21-1, before winning the second game, 10-0.

Gagen had nine strikeouts on the hill in the second game.
