Broke her arm: Of Warren Wasson’s four little daughters, the youngest one fell from a shelf and broke her arm near the elbow joint. She fell from a shelf while overlooking some other children play at “keeping a dancing school.” Hope to hear of a sound arm and unimpaired joint before long.

An ancient cold deke: Another plaster cast of a human form has just been taken from the mold left in the ashes at Pompeii. It shows a man seared at an onyx table, his hand under the projecting leaf reaching for a cold deck of cards on a ledge in a few inches from his fingers. The other player will be uncovered in a day or so. Again, does the archaeologist bring up from their past evaded of a civilized past evidence of a civilization which reigned in the olden days equal in all respects to our own Carson times.

Raising rents: The Appeal has been moving into the office next to Wells Fargo and Co. The rent has increased to $100 a month. The old Appeal office has been leased to Mr. Rail for a store house.

Uncle Sam busy: Working under the federal statute, the town of Ely is being cleared of immoral houses conducted by foreigners, and the foreigners who are connected with the houses of ill-fame are to be deported.

Photo caption: Atom blast provides light for these graphic pictures of destruction wrought by atom explosions at Yucca Flat. One-third of second elapses before heat caused it to burn furiously. Two and one-third seconds later the structure collapsed under impact followed by a heat wave.

World Trade Center bombing: Mahmoud Abouhalima was flown back to the United States from Egypt to face charges related to the bombing at the World Trade Center. He was a New York City cab driver and oversaw the operation in which a rented van loaded with a bomb was detonated in a parking garage under the buildings. (Four years prior to 9/11)

Appeal apple treat: From the pomological hand of Aaron Wells was vouchsafed to our little community of printers and pressmen and editors. Mr. Wells will accept our very hearty thanks. His apples are the best we’ve ever seen.

Greenlaw-Russell: Mayo Greenlaw was married in Reno to Miss May Russell of Portland, Maine 1 at the residence of Mrs. Ed. Verrilli sister of the bride, by Re. Hatch. After the usual collation the bridal party returned to this city where a bridal banquet was indulged. By the friends of the happy couple at their residence. Many Carson people went to Reno to witness the ceremony and threw the slipper of good luck.

All sorts: The police of Spokane are looking for a couple of prominent businessmen who for a beer of a few dollars induced about 20 schoolboys to become beastly intoxicated. Fears are that some of the boys will die.

To the convention: Miss Ann Martin left for St. Louis, where she will be a prominent factor in the convention of the brilliant women meeting for the Equal Franchise cause. A large delegation of the members of the league in Reno were present at the station to see her off in her cause. (Journal).

Capitol building: The Firemen’s Fund Insurance Companies (Rice & Peters) have insured the state capitol building for $100,000. There is a proposition to insure the library for $30,000. Should insurance be deemed advisable a scramble will take place between rival agents to get the job of doing it.

Seances: The Eureka papers tell of Base range seances that take place nightly. In Carson the mania for spiritualistic phenomenon has broken out and not a night passes that a circle of people are not gathered in one or more houses trying to get manifestations. There are five mediums in Carson who give seances to their friends for the sake of pastime and amusement. One young lady who is about 16 years old has developed into a writing medium.

All sorts: No paper but the Appeal could ever raise rents in this city from $20 to $100 a month in a single day.

Mrs. Sam Wright has offered the Appeal the use of the White House until it can find a permanent location.

Local news: The Walker Lake Bulletin tells of the discovery of a two-foot vein of gold bearing quartz averaging $500 per ton at Cottonwood Creek.

Washoe county farmers have about twenty carloads of onions on hand which they are holding for higher prices.

Mustang Ranch: A federal judge has refused to return Joe Conforte’s brothel which was seized by the Internal Revenue Service for alleged liquor law violations. The Mustang Ranch is one of Nevada’s largest brothels and was seized in a raid by IRS agents who said drinks were being sold without the purchase of a $54 federal tax stamp.
