The Carson High girls track and field team ended the last meet of the regular season with a third place finish, putting up 92 points.
Douglas won the girls side of the meet with 132 points.
Senior Ava Brehm put together a season best time of 13.45 to take sixth in the 100-meter dash.
In the 1,600, it was the usual suspects as Hannah Budd and Vea Miner took third and fourth in two personal record times of 5:32.88 and 5:33.93.
In the 4x800, Jinnie Ponczoch and Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez joined Miner and Budd for first place in 9:58.52.
Madison Hager PR’d in the 800 at 2:37.56.
Hager turned around and finished second in the 3,200 in 12:49.75 and Rodriguez-Nunez crossed in third in 12:56.84.
Sophomore Anne Davis set a career best in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing third in 17.06.
Kaylynn Bloomfield took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, PR’ing in 49.01.
In the field events, Anela Mitchell was fifth with a new best throw of 30 feet, 4 inches.
Mitchell turned around and took second in the discus at 96-8 for a personal record.
Makenzie Fernandez was fourth in the high jump and PR’d in the long jump with a leap of 15-5.75.
Rachel Bush PR’ed in the triple jump, leaping 33-10.5 to take fourth place.
Carson boys track and field ninth in Minden
The Senator boys track and field team netted 22 points at the Big George Invitational to take ninth place.
Spring Creek won the boys side with 106.5 points while Douglas was second with 91 points.
Sophomore Jacob Weninger posted a PR of 23.15 in the 200 for the Senators, finishing in fifth.
The 4x100 relay team of Weninger, Isaiah Hurlbert, Miles Frewert and Emilio Lopez took third in 44.81.
Freshman Sean Thornton was seventh in the 3,200.
Dayton track team readies for regional
The Dust Devil boys and girls track and field teams had several noteworthy finishes at the Big George Invite last weekend.
Daniel Newby was eighth in the 100 (11.68) and 10th in the 200 (23.8), setting PRs in both events.
Rhys Evans was 13th in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.22 and 12th in the 300m hurdles in 46.27. Evans was also tied for ninth in the pole vault with a clearance of 10-6.
On the girls side, Molly McGrew continued to blister her way through the 400 with a 1:02.16, taking second.
Whitney Winward was 11th in the 800 in 2:46.14 while Aspen Evans was 10th in the 3,200.
The foursome of Elysia Torres, Gwyneth Binkier, Isabel Soto and McGrew took fifth in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Torres, Winward, McGrew and Allison Hoffman were third in the 4x400.
Rachel Ply was 12th in the discus with a throw of 83-2 and tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing 4-10.
Sierra Lutheran sees abundant PRs in final meet
Sierra Lutheran High School track and field put together a strong showing at the Big George Invite with 22 Falcons setting personal records.
David Inmen was fifth in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 5-8.
Hunter Rowlatt was 10th in the 100 and 15th in the 200 while PR’ing in both events.
A trio of boys distance runners — Chandler Ricks (12:02), Joshua Fox (12:18) and Max Woefel (12:32) — all set career best times in the 3,200.
On the girls side, Chloe Friend was eight in the shot put with a throw just under 30 feet at 29-11.5.
Kayla Carpenter was 17th in the 100 in 14.01 while also finishing eighth in the 400 and PR’ing in the 200 (28.88).
The regional meet is next weekend.
“It will be an exciting time for the team and the coaches. The athletes have pushed themselves to work harder so they can accomplish faster times and great heights and lengths,” said head coach Robin Williams.
Bats come alive for Senator softball
Thanks to seven runs in the sixth inning, Carson High softball was able to beat Las Molinos on Saturday by an 11-7 final.
Corine Doran was 3-for-5 with a double and a triple while Ashleigh Naranjo and Rhys Branham each drove in three RBIs.
Isabella Reyes tossed 2.1 innings of relief work in which she allowed one run and put together a strikeout.
Jasmine Slater and Kiele Franco had multi-hit performances in the win as well.
The Senators picked up another win Saturday by a 6-4 margin over Red Bluff.
Carson scored the game’s first six runs over the first four innings, plating three of those runs in the second frame.
Cali Stagliano singled in a run to start the rally in the second before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
Zaydee Gitthens plated Sofia Morrison on an RBI groundout to take a 4-0 lead after two.
Reyes picked up an RBI in the third inning. Slater was the only Carson player to record two hits in the win over Red Bluff.
Friday, Carson lost 11-10 to Chico after mounting a late rally.
Trailing 7-0, the Senators plated three runs in the fourth, but gave two back in the home half of the frame.
In the fifth, trailing 9-3, Carson put together a seven-run rally to jump ahead 10-9.
Morrison lined a bases loaded triple to right field, scoring all three Senator runners.
Slater squeezed in a run with a bunt before beating the throw to first base.
Doran added a single to right field that scored Slater and then Reyes tacked on the game-leading single to center to give Carson a 10-9 lead.
Ultimately, Chico scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to walk it off in five innings of play.
Carson is 5-20 entering the final week of regular season play.
With eight of the nine teams qualifying for regional play in 5A North softball, the Senators (2-12) will look to hold on to the No. 8 seed.
Reno, Manogue baseball best Carson
Carson High baseball faced a tough two-game slate Friday and Saturday, taking on the top teams in the Class 5A North in Bishop Manogue and Reno.
In a 13-3 loss to the Miners in Reno, Cooper Eaton went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Decarlo Quintana was 1-for-3 for Carson with two RBIs in the loss.
Saturday, Carson fell to the Huskies at home, 12-3.
Eaton went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in another run for the Senators while Marcus Montes was also credited with an RBI.
All nine teams qualify for the 5A regional baseball tournament with the 8 and 9 seeds playing for the right to face the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals.
Carson is currently slated to face Reed in that 8/9 play-in game with the winner of the Senators and Raiders game Tuesday deciding who will be the home team for the regional opener.
