A certain boarding house at Gold Mountain was last week sold to a Chinese person, who paid $550 therefor. On Thursday evening last the miners of that camp waited upon the Chinese person and notified him to leave camp at once, which he did. – Bonanza

The atomic burst came with a blinding flash that momentarily dimmed even in the bright desert sun at 8:30 a.m. and was seen brilliantly even from Las Vegas, 55 miles from the test site. A cloud mushrooming up from the explosion soared rapidly to 30,000 feet then lost its shape and began drifting toward the northeast.

Carson City residents will get the opportunity to cast a ballot for or against a citywide mass transit system next year in a vote to increase sales tax to fund the system.

Last evening a buggy, having as occupants Mr. and Mrs. Matthews of Carson upset at the corner of Carson and C. Streets. Mrs. Matthews was thrown violently to the ground, and received internal injuries of a severe nature, one rib being fractured. Mr. Matthews escaped unhurt.

A formal tree planting ceremony took place on the capital lawn this afternoon attended by Gov. Charles Russell and other dignitaries, members of the Mark Twain Garden Club and spectators. The occasion was dedication of the single leaf pinion as the official tree of Nevada.

The Appeal has received a gross of crown pencils with a request to use them and write something about their characteristics. We have used the crown pencil a week and exhausted nearly the entire gross. The leading characteristics of the crown pencil is to break off when subjected to the sharpening process and to wear out faster than any pencil on the market. Actual experience demonstrates that it requires four pencils to write a column of the Appeal.
