A person is dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred Friday evening in the Washoe Tribe’s Carson Colony in south Carson City.

Sheriff Ken Furlong told the Appeal that around 6 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was called to assist tribal authorities after a welfare check on Wialaki Street turned deadly.

The officer who used deadly force was a tribal officer, not CCSO, Furlong said. Furlong said he believes the deceased to be a male individual but could not provide more details.

CCSO helped secure the area, and the FBI will be investigating.

“Because it’s on tribal land, the FBI has jurisdiction,” said Furlong.

Furlong added, “As soon as the first members of the FBI got there, we cleared the area.”
