After pulling off its biggest win of the season during the regional tournament, the Oasis Academy softball team couldn’t find the same magic at last week’s 1A state tournament in Las Vegas.

Oasis led most of the game against Pahranagat Valley on Thursday, but the Southern Nevada school tied the game at three in the fourth before ending the game the next inning with 11 runs to win 14-3. The Bighorns fell to Tonopah, 7-0, in the next game to end their season.

Kaylin Guthrie’s RBI single got Oasis Academy on the board in the first inning, and Lorena Rios’ steal in the second inning with two outs broke a 1-1 tie. Another swipe at home in the third inning when Taylynn Maynez scored gave Oasis Academy a 3-1 lead before Pahranagat Valley scored twice in the fourth on steals.

In the fifth inning, Pahranagat Valley scored its 11 runs on a two-run double, two errors, four walks, a single and a steal.

Kirsten Detomasi, who struck out five, pitched the entire game and surrendered seven earned runs.

In the Tonopah loss, Oasis Academy kept it to a 1-0 game until the final inning when the Muckers scored six.

The Bighorns had only two hits – singles by Detomasi and Stacy Bogdanowicz. Detomasi struck out 14 in the seven-inning effort despite allowing four earned runs.

Siebecker competes in state golf

Oasis Academy senior Tyler Siebecker finished 38th in last week’s 2A state golf tournament.

Siebecker shot a 112 on the first day and 113 on the second day for a two-day total of 225 at the par-72 Red Hawk Golf and Resort course in Sparks.

North Tahoe’s Jaxen Perryman was the low medalist with a 146 total as his team won the title with a 640 score, 60 strokes better than second-place Lake Mead.
