Carson High School boys cross country took sixth as a team at Saturday’s Class 5A state cross country meet at Rancho San Rafael Park.
Senator junior Sawyer Macy led the charge for Carson, taking ninth as an individual in 17:24.
Sophomore Sean Thornton was 17th in 17:52, finishing right at the top of a pack of runners.
Junior Alex Miner was one second off Thornton’s pace (17:53), but crossed the line in 21st.
Nate Freed was 53rd in 18:51 while Ivan Romeo and Quinn Kuchnicki were 72nd and 73rd, respectively, in 19:41 and 19:43.
Romeo’s time was 20 seconds quicker than his regional time a week prior on the same course.
Mark Walther was the final Carson boys runner to cross the finish line, taking 79th in 20:40.
Dayton, Sierra Lutheran compete at state
Dayton High School’s Allison Hoffman made a solid improvement from her sophomore year to her junior year in terms of results at state.
After taking 30th as a sophomore, Hoffman was 21st as a junior on Saturday, coming into the finish in 24:10.
Along with nearly cracking the top 20, Hoffman bested her regional meet time from a week prior by more than 80 seconds (25:31).
In the Class 2A state meet, Sierra Lutheran senior Aidan Concannon was a medalist, taking seventh place in 18:38.
It was his second medal in as many weeks after finishing fourth during the 2A North regional championships last week.
Freshman Noah Sever got his first taste of a state meet, taking 21st in 19:53.
Sever was able to knock 19 seconds off his regional time (20:11) Saturday.
