‘Fallon on Ice’ rink opens Saturday

The city of Fallon has added ice skating to the list of available holiday activities. A temporary rink has been under construction on South Carson Street in the parking lot across from City Hall and next to the Douglass House.

The “Fallon on Ice” rink opens Saturday. Admission prices are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors/military and $12 for 5-17 year-olds. Children 4 and under are free. Skate rental is available as well as a $3 discount for anyone bringing their own skates. Double-blade skates are available for young children.

The rink is open seven days a week with several sessions each day.

Twelve-years-old and under must be accompanied by an adult. A waiver must be signed by every participant, or by a parent/guardian for anyone under 18 years of age. The waiver may be filled out ahead of time through the Fallon on Ice website https://www.fallonnevada.gov/fallononice/. The website also has pricing for birthday parties and a list of upcoming themed skate events for the season.

The city council also took action on several other agenda items. In a special meeting Nov. 3 the council unanimously approved the 2023 Landfill Enterprise Revenue Bond Ordinance. The introduction, public hearing and adoption of the ordinance proceeded as if an emergency exists because of the urgent need to use some of the funds to replace the landfill compactor recently destroyed by a fire. City Clerk Sean Richardson was also authorized to accept a binding offer for the purchase of the bond without further council action due to the variable nature of bond interest rates.

During a regular meeting Nov. 7 the council unanimously approved to split 575 Babb Place into two parcels.

The council also approved a reversion to combine 785 and 765 Babb Place into one parcel in a 2-0 vote with one abstention. The parcels in question are owned by Kent's Supply Center, Inc. which is owned by Councilwoman Karla Kent, so she abstained from the vote.

With a 3-0 vote the council approved a merger and a re-subdivision parcel map for Nevada State Bank to adjust the boundary lines of 446 and 498 W. Williams Ave. Prior to the approval the parcel boundary ran through the middle of the bank building.

Before the vote, Mayor Ken Tedford, City Engineer Derek Zimney and the council discussed availability of parking around the two buildings that share the common parking lot. Zimney said a supplementary parking lot at 55 N. Taylor St. provides enough additional parking spaces to allow the bank to successfully meet the number of spaces required by the building’s square footage.
