Carson City Public Works, in conjunction with River Wranglers, Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, Carson Water Subconservancy District, Muscle Powered and Carson Valley Trails Association, is hosting the second annual Carson City Source Water Assessment Day on Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon.
The location of the event is the North Kings Canyon parking area.
“This event is geared toward families and kids of all ages,” the city said in a news release. “The event will feature a variety of exciting family-friendly booths with hands-on activities. Participants can experiment with watershed and flood models and learn about the importance of safeguarding and conserving their drinking water.”
The goal of the event is to bring community awareness and education to the surface water sources of drinking water for Carson City “in a fun and interactive way,” the city said.
After a talk by utility officials, attendees can visit the North Kings Canyon intake structure, a 200-yard walk from the parking area along a dirt road.
“River Wranglers will demonstrate water quality sampling using their interactive test kits. Participants will learn about the sources of their water, its treatment at the Quill (Water) Treatment Plant and how it is delivered to Carson City homes,” reads the release.
After water sampling, there will be a guided hike to Kings Canyon Waterfall.
