Two Yerington men died on Oct. 1 in a crash on State Route 439 in Lyon County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a silver 2004 Mercury Sable sedan with a total of five occupants was traveling wrong-way northbound on SR439 in the southbound number one travel lane at 7:28 p.m., according the Nevada State Police.
A gray 2013 Honda Pilot was traveling southbound on SR439 in the number one travel lane. The front left of the Sable struck the left front of the Pilot. The Sable rotated counterclockwise and came to rest on the inside shoulder. The Pilot came to rest on its left side on the outside shoulder.
A passenger in the Sable, Cesar Gonzalez, a 27-year-old male from Yerington, died on-scene. Three occupants from the Sable were taken to an area hospital with moderate to severe injuries. The driver of the Sable, Eduardo Barrera Lino, a 25-year-old male from Yerington, died at the hospital.
Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multidisciplinary Investigation & Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.
The fatality marks the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol – Northern Command West 37th fatal crash, resulting in 41 fatalities for 2023.
