For more than 20 years, Churchill County has hosted the Jim Regan Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for academic scholarships for county staff and their children.
Regan, a county commissioner who was heavily involved in the community, died in office in April 2000.
The 2023 tournament attracted 53 golfers Sept. 23 for a day of golfing, raffles, food and fun. After two rounds through the 9-hole course, the tournament results were:
• First — Jim Isbister, Tomas Kutansky, Andrew Smirnes and Andrew Palmer.
• Second — Brian Mello, Chelle Dalager, Avery Strasdin and David Dakin.
• Third — Teri Peck, Dennis Rash, Tom Rhodes, and Jenna Parrish.
• Longest Drive — Brett Carey and Chelle Dalager.
• Closest to the Pin — Alan Kalt and Teri Peck.
The Jim Regan Memorial was conceived by former county Comptroller Alan Kalt and is organized by Pam Moore in the Churchill County clerk-treasurer’s office.
The tournament was sponsored by Churchill County and the city of Fallon as platinum sponsors; along with Mackedon, deBraga & Rowe Law, PC; Tedford Tire and Auto Service, Western Nevada Supply, Banner Churchill Community Hospital, A & K Earth Movers, Inc.; Bassham Furniture, Churchill County Federal Credit Union, Oasis Online, Fallon Nugget/Bonanza, Big R, Fallon Pizza Factory, Fallon Golf Course, Evie Regan, Scott & Patti Hiatt, Russ & Kelly Frost, Kent’s Supply Co., Harmon Junction and Marcia Ernst.
The tournament has raised nearly $80,000 over the last two decades which has in turn been given out in scholarships to county employees and their children each spring. This year scholarships were awarded to Royce Mills, Dallas Shults, Austin Mize, Nicole Persek and Stacie Bodganowicz.
