The Carson City Symphony, conducted by music director David Bugli, will open its 40th season on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. with a concert, “Life Begins at Forty” at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

This will be the symphony's 220th concert. Featured guest soloist Eric Fassbender will play Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in B-flat Major with the orchestra.

To commemorate, the association commissioned composer Michael Kibbe to write an overture, "For Forty," to be premiered. The program also includes William Grant Still's Symphony No. 1 ("Afro-American"), Gwyneth Walker's "Open the Door," and Bugli's "State of Metamorphosis," written in 1989 in honor of Nevada's 125th anniversary.

Tickets are $18 general admission; $15 for seniors, students, and members; and free for youth ages 18 and under. Tickets are on sale online at www.CCSymphony.com or at the door. “Flex” tickets at discounted prices are also available online.

Pre-show entertainment begins at 3 p.m. in the lobby. A meet-the-soloist concert preview with Bugli and Fassbender begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Bob Crowell Board Room.
