Oasis Academy sent its only pair of golfers to the podium in last week’s 2A state tournament at the par-72 Toiyabe Golf Club in New Washoe City.
Olivia Kutansky finished fourth after carding a third-best score of 99 on Oct. 17 before falling one spot with a 101 on the second day. Meirra Cavanaugh finished sixth after shooting a 107 on the first day and 110 the following day.
The top score went to North Tahoe’s Libby Webb, who finished with an 84 and 98, as the Lakers won the team title with a score of 789. North Tahoe, which had the top three individuals, won the tournament by 308 strokes over White Pine.
CROSS COUNTRY
In the final meet of the season before this week’s Northern 3A region championships, the Bighorns finished fifth out of six teams in the Dave Mason Trail Run Cross Country Invitational at Sierra Lutheran in Carson City.
Oasis Academy tallied 89 points as Wooster won the 5,000-meter meet with 19 points.
The top times in the boys and girls divisions were 17 minutes, 58.13 seconds and 21:32.72.
For the Bighorns, freshman Leonidas Arcoraci led with a time of 24:30.38 followed by sophomore Jay Frederick in 26:37.08. Freshman Kamron Bracken finished the race in 27:02.61 and sophomore Kayden White ran it in 28:24.01.
The school’s lone runner in the girls division was sophomore Kayla Greenberg, who finished in 33:09.60.
The next stop is the region meet on Friday at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park next to the University of Nevada, Reno, campus.
The 2A Northern girls division will kick off at 10 a.m. followed by the 2A boys at 12:35 p.m. The top-three teams plus the top-seven individuals from non-qualifying teams qualify for next week’s state meet, which is also at Rancho.
VOLLEYBALL
The Bighorns fell on the road to Incline and Sierra Lutheran last week, extending their losing streak to seven with two matches left in the season.
Oasis Academy hosted North Tahoe on Wednesday for the final home match and it travels to Yerington on Thursday.
Incline defeated Oasis Academy 25-11, 25-9 and 25-6 last Wednesday.
Senior Shelbi Bracken, and sophomores Alyssa Ayers and Grace Laca each had one kill. Sophomore Taylor Hude led the team in digs with four, Laca had two and sophomore Dahlila Creer had one. Ayers dished out two assists.
Sierra Lutheran came back from losing the second set to hand Oasis Academy a 25-12, 21-25, 25-10 and 25-13 defeat.
Laca led the team in kills with seven and Bracken had three. Junior Kaitlyn Guthrie, Hyde and Ayers each had an assist, Laca recorded one block, and Creer led the team in digs with four. Ayers had five assists and senior Madison Darst added four.
