According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s September 2023 economic report, Nevada’s unemployment rate was unchanged from August to September with the rate staying at 5.4 percent.
“The labor force in the state grew by about 8,000, and September marked the ninth consecutive month that the state has seen an increase in its labor force, and this also marks the first time in the state’s history that its labor force exceeded 1.6 million,” according to a DETR press release.
The release provided some employment highlights, seasonally adjusted, for the state’s three Metropolitan Statistical Areas:
• Las Vegas employment increased by 4,100 jobs (.4 percent) since August, an increase of 36,000 jobs (3.3 percent) since September 2022.
• Reno employment had an increase of 2,300 jobs (.8 percent) since August, an increase of 8,900 jobs (3.4 percent) since September 2022.
• Carson City employment had an increase of 200 jobs (.6 percent) since August, an increase of 1,300 jobs (4.2 percent) since September 2022.
“This month, for the first time, Nevada’s labor force grew past 1.6 million workers. Our employment growth remains strong, and our unemployment rate held steady despite a rise in the labor force participation rate. Overall, this report points to stable, ongoing growth in Nevada’s labor market,” said David Schmidt, DETR chief economist.
The latest DETR data on unemployment in Carson City shows an unemployment rate of 4.8 percent for August, not seasonally adjusted. That includes a labor force of 26,343, with 25,069 employed and 1,274 unemployed.
