The Carson City Senior Center is hosting a fundraising opportunity to raise $10,000 for the Meals on Wheels program, according to a news release from the city.

“Every cent donated to Meals on Wheels will be doubled by the generosity of John McDougall of the Pay It Forward Project Fund, held at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, with a maximum matching grant of $5,000,” says the release. “Meals on Wheels delivers over 100,000 meals to local Carson City seniors who are at risk of going hungry and are no longer able to cook for themselves or shop for groceries, commonly due to a medical or physical hardship that makes those routine tasks very challenging.”

The program also provides social interaction to homebound seniors “who have no family or daily contact with others.”

“Our drivers complete a welfare check during each delivery making sure our most vulnerable seniors are doing OK,” said the release. “Deliveries have saved the lives of many seniors who were found in medical distress during a visit, and in need of immediate medical attention. Meals on Wheels provides a vital service to the Carson City community.

“The community is asked to donate what they can as all dollars raised up to $5,000 will be matched and no amount is too little.”

Donations can be made by mail to: Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Carson City, NV 89706 or online at https://www.carsoncityseniorcenter.org/.
