You’ll have to flip the calendar back a couple of years to find the last time Douglas High girls golf didn’t leave a meet as the team champs.
Last Wednesday, the Tigers finished third as a group (390) behind Bishop Manogue (340) and Reed (378).
On an individual level, Giana Zinke took third with a score of 86 while Madison Frisby was ninth with a 92.
Logan Karwoski posted a 95 while Kailynn Dollar ended her round with a 117.
Douglas High volleyball goes 3-4 over torrid stretch
The Tiger volleyball team competed in seven matches over a three-day span this past weekend, putting together a 3-4 clip.
Douglas bested Truckee, Chico and Sutter in three sets at a tournament while falling to Christian Brothers, Windsor and Acalanes.
Prior to the weekend slate, the Tigers tangled with Reno in a league contest, dropping that tilt in four sets.
Douglas (10-6, 1-2) will host Spanish Springs (13-3, 3-0) Thursday at 6 p.m.
Tiger football off to best start since 2003
Since 2004, Douglas High School football hasn’t started a season with a 3-0 record.
That streak ends in 2023 as the Tigers bested Spring Creek, 31-0, Friday night to move to 3-0 for the first time in nearly two decades.
The Tigers were able to move the ball relatively consistently throughout the contest, gathering a 15-0 lead early in the second quarter.
A safety to start the third quarter, followed by an Aaron Tekansik interception, set up Douglas with the ball in enemy territory and a 17-0 lead.
Tekansik ended the night with a pair of interceptions.
"He looks like a guard, playing linebacker," joked Douglas High School head coach Kyle Mays of Tekansik.
Douglas wouldn’t score on that drive, but successfully found the end zone two more times in the final quarter and a half.
Evan Youmans punched in the last touchdown inside of the final minute.
Even with the travel, Douglas' coaching staff was impressed with the team's ability to get off the bus with energy.
"Anytime we faced a little adversity, the kids responded accordingly," said Mays.
Douglas' offense has continued to impress as well.
"We've continued to move the ball pretty methodically," said Mays. "I think the impressive part is chewing up yards and chewing up time."
On the other side of the ball, the Tigers have allowed nine points in three games.
"They don't quit. It's a fun group to watch," said Mays. "We're going to have a big test (next Friday) against Damonte."
