The Churchill County High School volleyball team stunned Lowry last Wednesday in a five-game thriller that lasted nearly three hours in both teams’ 3A league opener in Winnemucca.
The Buckaroos, who finished second in last year’s regional tournament to advance to state, won the first game against Fallon, 27-25, but the Lady Wave won the next two, 32-30 and 25-21, and was two match points away from taking the match in four. Lowry trailed 23-19 in the fourth before winning 27-25, but Fallon cruised through the final game to win 15-6.
Fallon, which hasn’t made the playoffs since 2019, travels to Elko County this weekend to face Spring Creek and Elko. The Lady Wave’s first home game isn’t until Sept. 19 when Hug comes to Fallon.
