The Carson High boys soccer team may have needed an extra pep talk Saturday against Douglas.
Tied 0-0 at the half, the Senators came out and scored three goals against the Tigers in the second half en route to the win.
In the 55th minute, Rene Gonzalez broke the scoreless tie after Steve Gomez found Gonzalez wide open in the box.
“I saw him through the corner of my eye,” said Gomez. “He’s a finisher, so I knew it was a secure goal.”
Carson’s second goal came off the foot of junior Jaden Gomez.
In the 69th minute, the Senators scored their last goal of the 80-minute affair when Ricardo Plascencia-Flores was able to get his head on a bouncing ball and knock it over the keeper and into the net.
“Sometimes you only need the first goal,” said Gonzalez. “I feel like little by little, we are starting to put the pieces together.”
The Senator JV team won, 7-1, behind two goals apiece from Juan Martin Hernandez and Ricky Torres.
UP NEXT: Carson (6-2-1, 5-2-1 in Class 5A North) will travel to McQueen (3-3-2, 2-1) on Wednesday before hosting Damonte Ranch (2-3-2, 2-2-1) on Saturday.
