A grand re-opening and ribbon cutting for the remodeled Carson City Senior Center will be 11 a.m. Friday in the dining room of the facility located at 911 Beverly Drive.

Approximately $1.4 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding and Carson City capital improvement funding were used for the renovation of the dining room and kitchen area and the lobby and restrooms of the west entrance. A new art collection was also added to the dining room.

The grand re-opening will include a ribbon cutting followed by lunch ($6 for those 59 and under).

“The ribbon cutting will feature Mayor Lori Bagwell and invited guests that were part of the project in various different roles,” said Courtney Warner, executive director of the senior center. “We are expecting artists who are featured in our new art collection to be in attendance. We have created a book of the featured artists with their bios and contact information. The art collection was a partnership with the Nevada Artists Association and the Nevada Arts Council, steered by the vision of Kristy Dial and Teri Sweeney to have a call to artists to submit their art.”

The construction project was completed by H+K Architects of Reno and Shaheen Beauchamp Builders of Carson.

“This event officially marks the end of the renovation and transitions into our new format within our dining room,” Warner said. “We’ve been open since early August, testing ideas that will innovate our dining room experience.”

She said the new beverage bar is a self-serve feature, among other improvements.

“We’ve added a new condiments bar with shakers, toppings, sauces and spices where seniors can dress up their meal to their liking,” she said. “We have hot sauces, vinegars and more. Starting in October, we will launch our official choice menu where we will offer an entrée salad, like a chicken Caesar salad or chef salad, available if a senior would prefer a different option instead of the posted meal of the day.”

Warner said the changes will provide healthier options.

“There are no reservations,” she said. “When seniors arrive for the on-site meal, they can request what they want.”
