During its regular meeting Sept. 5 and a special meeting Sept. 7 the Fallon City Council approved a contract for a new deputy public works director, a tentative subdivision map, a construction contract and a liquor license.
The council unanimously accepted Mayor Ken Tedford’s appointment of Glen Radtke as the new director with an annual salary of $101,000.
“Glen is a team player and I am confident he will be a significant contributor to the city of Fallon and my cabinet,” Tedford said.
Radtke has served as the city parks/facilities supervisor since October 2022. He brought his family to Fallon after spending almost 20 years as the fleet & facilities manager in Douglas County. Radtke said that he’s excited for this opportunity to continue working with the city on upcoming projects.
The council approved a tentative subdivision map for Diamond Creek 2 Subdivision as presented by City Engineer Derek Zimney. This is the first step in creating 60 new single-family lots in the subdivision located in the vicinity of Coral Drive and Agate Lane.
The approval is contingent upon the installation of a minimum eight-foot high concrete or masonry/CMU block sound wall along the west property line and the southwest retention pond parcel. The rear property line of these parcels is shared with the Churchill County maintenance yard. Residents of these lots may be disturbed by noise from heavy equipment and backup alarms during emergency callouts, particularly during wintry road conditions.
A contract was approved with Hat Creek Construction to complete the Court Street rehabilitation project. Councilwoman Kelly Frost confirmed with Public Works Director Brian Byrd that, although this is the first time the city has worked with Hat Creek Construction, the company has been highly recommended. Byrd said it’s a “very reputable contractor.”
The reconstruction plan includes portions of Court Street from South East Street to South Nevada Street. Funding for this project is supplied by the city’s Enterprise Funds and a Community Development Block Grant.
In other action, Bar Manager Rick McCusker was approved for an on-premises drinking establishment liquor license on behalf of the Elks Lodge 2239.
McCusker told the council as an aside that the Elks hosted a local Major League Baseball “Pitch, Hit and Run” competition in July for ages 7-14. Five participants received invitations in August from the Oakland A’s baseball team to move on to the next level.
