Auto stage: The auto stage usually employed in running between Fallen Leaf Lake and Tallac, Lake Tahoe, passed through on their way to spend a day at the fair in Reno. The members of the party spent a pleasant hour at the capitol, listened to a lecture on basketry at Abe Cohn’s Emporium and left some perfectly good money.

Look alike: Ray Harris had a special “identification card” stating he is not the man some people may think he is. The sheriff’s office decided to the use the card after he saw Harris staring at a “wanted” poster. He reported to police he had seen a murder suspect looking at his own picture in the post office.

Water from brothel: The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe owns the water rights formerly owned by Joe Conforte’s Mustang Ranch. The 461 acre-feet of water rights was separated from the ownership of the tribe which had purchased the water rights.

Shooting affray. Charles Allen shot R. Grannis in the right hand yesterday, inflicting an ugly flesh wound between the thumb and forefinger. This small matinee took place in the afternoon in front of Tump Wistou’s Exchange. Grannis story is that Allen, who had been playing poker and lost money at it, and who had been drinking a little too heavily, came up to Grannis and said he had been outraged. A fight ensued with Allen pulling out a derringer. Dr. Waters tended the wound.

There was no more striking figure at the automobile races yesterday or no more interested spectator than John Sparks, the Democratic Governor of Nevada, who is spending a few days in Denver on his way to visit old scenes in Texas.

The city of Carson has filed suit against 40 local residents who have failed to pay their sewage assessments. The city had asked the city attorney to send a please pay notice. With this action, the residents will need to pay the bill, penalty, and interest.

The typographical target. The shooting match between the Enterprise and Chronicle typos resulted in a victory for the Chronicle. The score stood 289 to 166, the Chronicle beating its opponent 148 out of a possible 200. Plant, of the Enterprise, made ten straight misses, when his ammunition gave out. The match was for the O’Connel trophy — a keg of Klein’s beer.

Yesterday everybody who could rustle a gun and a permit to shoot over the tule fields at Washoe Lake took a hand in hunting, and form the bags that were brought in, it safe to say that the butcher will not do a hustling business for the next day or two. The club at the north end of the lake was crowded to capacity.

More than 50 entries have been received to date for the parade is the top attraction of Nevada’s biggest celebration, the observance of the 99th anniversary of the state’s admission to the union. About 200 entries are expected.

Dr. Katrina Van Patten today announced the start of her optometric practice in Carson City. She said she will be associated with her father, Dr. William G. Van Patten at 1200 N. Mountain St.
Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
