The house at 414 Discovery Drive in Fallon looks more like a real home now that it has a roof, windows and a “For Sale” sign in the front.
The project has caused some excitement in the local community as the first house built by Churchill County High School construction students since 2015. The original home construction program was started in 1999 by instructor Louie Mori who completed 14 homes with his students before retiring.
Last summer Dave Dakin of Stillwater Homes, LLC petitioned CCHS principal Tim Spencer and the school board to bring the program back. The school district officially broke ground on the site in September. Under Dakin’s direction, the students learn home construction skills by doing a majority of the work themselves within the hands-on learning environment. Dakin said they also practice a good work ethic by showing up to every class session on time and completing their assigned tasks within the team.
The listing is already available on the Berney Realty website at https://www.berneyrealty.com/. Listing realtor Josh Berney said he expects to see more buyer activity once the Sheetrock goes up in April. The 1,445 square-foot home listed at $369,500 features an open floor plan with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and is expected to be completed by May.
In a collaborative learning effort, CCHS computer science teacher Aaron Holt said Dakin provided a copy of the house blueprints for his students in the high school’s video game design classes. The students used the plans to create a three-dimensional digital rendering of the house. Details of the rendering such as landscaping, paint colors and furniture can be customized on the request of a potential buyer.
The rendering video is available to view on the Greenwave Games YouTube channel.
