Roundup: Win for swim; track in Truckee; golf wins twice

Fallon’s boys and girls swim teams easily defeated Sparks at the Northwest pool in Reno two weeks ago.

The Wave didn’t lose a contested race with the regional meet around the corner next month.

The Greenwave boys won, 89-36, while the girls won, 80-34.

For the boys, only two races – 50-yard free and 200 relay – were contested. Fallon swam unopposed in the 200 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 100 fly, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.

Brody Reynolds, Michael Liston and Kage Oyler finished 1-2-3 in the 50 free with Reynolds taking the best time of 27.06 seconds. Liston finished in 27.33 followed by Oyler in 33.42. The 200 relay team of William McLean, Zachary Koenig, Liston and Reynolds won the race in 1:47.82.

For the girls, only three races — 50 free, 100 free and 200 relay — were contested. Fallon swam unopposed in the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 200 individual medley, 500 free and 100 breaststroke.

Katelen Helton won the 50 free in 28.13. Miranda Reeder won the 100 free in 1:15.74 while the relay team of Eveyln Lott, Jocylyn Miller, Helton and Reeder won the 200 in 2:12.26.


TRACK

The Greenwave track and field team finished seventh in the boys division and 10th in the girls in Saturday’s Bob Shaffer Track Classic at Truckee High School.

McQueen won the boys division with 95.5 points while Fallon finished with 49.9. Truckee won the girls division with 113 points with Fallon finishing with 29.

BOYS GOLF

The Fallon boys golf team won last week’s tournaments in Winnemucca and Fallon after opening the season with a pair of wins in Lyon County.

In last Monday’s event in Winnemucca, Fallon finished with a team total of 346 strokes, edging Elko and Fernley by three strokes. Dierks Hammon led the team with a score of 84 followed by Pakela Malama-Gomes at 85. Ron Lee posted an 88 and Colin Shishido carded an 89 as Fallon finished with four golfers below 90, the only team to accomplish this feat. Matthias Loop finished with a 92 and Drake Reid had a 98.

The lowest score went to Fernley’s Jacob Holes (82).

Playing on their home course, the Greenwave easily won Wednesday’s tournament over Elko, 326-340, at the Fallon Golf Course.

Both Malama-Gomes and Shishido each finished with low-medalist honors with a score of 76. No other golfer finished in the 70s.

Hammon carded an 82, Lee finished with a 92, Loop had a 97 and Reid ended with a 98.

Fallon began the second half the season this week with a pair of tournaments in Elko County. Fallon ends the season at South Tahoe on May 6 and North Valleys on May 7.

Fallon leads the 3A North with 40 points over Fernley at 33.5.

The top three teams qualify for the state tournament, which is May 14-15 in Pahrump.
