Carson High baseball nearly pulled off one of the comebacks of the year Thursday night on its Senior Night.

However, the Senators ended up on the wrong end of a 13-12 defeat to Damonte Ranch (2-12 in Class 5A league play).

The Senators plated runs in six of the seven innings they came up to bat, but one tough inning on the defensive side of the ball served as the difference.

Trailing 13-6 in the sixth inning, Jeremy Hernandez doubled in Marcus Montes to start the rally. Hernandez ended the game 3-for-5 with an RBI.

After a Chase Grundy walk, Carson White drove in a pair on a double of his own to bring the Senators within four, 13-9.

White, who ended the evening 4-for-5 with five RBIs, knocked in two more runs in the seventh to bring Carson's deficit to one, 13-12. A pop out to center ended the comeback effort there.

"He had a really good day. He's made some adjustments in his approach and his swing and it paid off for him today," said Carson head coach Bryan Manoukian of White's performance.

"I'm really proud of our guys for battling. It would've been easy to fold up and give it away," added Manoukian.

Carson led 5-1 after three thanks to an RBI single from  White and a sacrifice fly from Kameron Reed propped up a three-run third.

The Mustangs got two back in the fourth before scratching across seven runs in the fifth to go up, 10-5.

Carson committed two errors in the inning, which allowed the Mustangs to plate its ninth and 10th runs of the evening.

Montes got the starting nod for the Senators and struck out nine over 4.2 innings of work. White threw the final two scoreless innings for the Senators.

Carson will graduate seven seniors at the conclusion of the season in Montes, Reed, Hernandez, Noah Silverberg, Tanner Bohemier, Jordan Sieben and Malakye Brooks.

"They're not the most talented senior class that i've had, but they're some of the best leaders that i've had," said Manoukian. "Any success we have over the next few years is because of the hard work and the leadership they've shown."

Reno escapes Carson, despite Raggett’s gem

Carson High School junior Will Raggett was excellent Tuesday afternoon against the league-leading Reno Huskies.

Reno entered Tuesday’s 5A baseball league game with a 10-1 record, in contrast to Carson’s 1-10 mark.

However, the Senator starting pitcher went six innings while allowing five hits and one earned run against the Huskies, keeping the teams deadlocked at 1-1 into the seventh.
Reno rallied to win, 4-1, with a seventh-inning burst.

Carson trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the third, but Tanner Bohemier came around to score on a Jordan Sieben groundball that ended in a Husky error.

The Senators’ lone tough inning in the field was the seventh as Reno was able to squeak across three unearned runs due to an error in the field on a bunt.

Bohemier, Carson White and Noah Silverberg were the three Carson hitters to each record a hit.
