Nevada Urban Indians, Inc., is on a mission to ensure that every member of our community receives the care they deserve. Focused primarily on assisting American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and others who face barriers to health care access, this organization is making a significant impact on community health.

In the past year alone, Nevada Urban Indians has been actively engaged in over 15 outreach events, reaching out to gather insights directly from community members. Through surveys conducted at these events, they gained valuable information about the demographics they serve and the specific needs within the community.

The data revealed significant trends. Many of those seeking assistance are aged 45 and above, with women forming most respondents. A notable portion of the community lacks insurance or regular medical care, hindering their ability to access essential services. Moreover, a concerning percentage is at risk for diabetes, while others struggle with substance abuse issues.

Provided with these insights, Nevada Urban Indians is strategizing to expand its services and cater to a broader range of needs within the community. Last year, they provided care to nearly 700 patients, with a considerable portion falling within the 45-64 age bracket. Operating a clinic in Reno that is open five days a week and an office in Carson City open four days a week, they offer a comprehensive range of services, from vaccinations to mental health support.

Looking ahead to 2024, Nevada Urban Indians is determined to enhance its impact even further. Plans include increasing staff support and expanding service offerings to meet the evolving needs of the community. Programs addressing mental health, substance abuse, diabetes education, and victim services are already in place, with efforts underway to secure additional funding to support victims of human trafficking.

The organization's commitment to community well-being extends beyond medical care. With regular mental health check-ins for staff and targeted programs for substance abuse and diabetes education, they foster a holistic approach to health.

They also offer a victim service program which provides shelter and support to those in need. Nevada Urban Indians continues to seek innovative ways to serve the community better. They continue to make strides toward ensuring every member of the community stays healthy and receives the support they require.
