The Fallon boys golf team’s tournament streak was snapped in Elko after the Greenwave won the first five events of the season.

After winning at Spring Creek the day before, Fallon finished third at the Ruby View Golf Course last Tuesday as the host, Elko, won the event with a total score of 315 strokes. Fernley finished second at 324 followed by Fallon at 325.

Colin Shishido led the team with a score of 78 followed by Pakela Malama-Gomes at 79. Dierks Hammon scored an 82 followed by Ron Lee at 86 and Drake Reid at 91. Wyatt Sorensen carded a 96, which was not included in the team score.

Despite the third-place finish, Fallon still controls the Northern 3A with two tournaments left on the schedule. The Greenwave, who travel to South Tahoe and North Valleys next week, lead the league with a score of 58 points followed by Fernley with 50.5 and Truckee with 45. The top-three teams advance to state in three weeks.

In Monday’s win at the Spring Creek Golf Course, Hammon led the Wave with a score of 78 as Fallon won the event 335-345 over Fernley. Malama-Gomes finished second on the team with an 85 followed by a two-way tie between Lee and Shishido at 86. Reid carded a 93 and Mattias Loop finished with a 96, which was excluded from the team score.

SWIMMING FALLS TO TRUCKEE

The Fallon swim team defeated Hug but lost to Truckee two weeks ago in Truckee.

The girls took down the Hawks, 69-49, before losing to the Wolverines, 190-34. In the boys division, Hug forfeited but Fallon fell to Truckee, 148-68.

Fallon competed against South Tahoe last week (results are unavailable) and it finishes the season this weekend in Fernley.

Fallon recorded only three wins as the Wave boys struggled against one of the best teams in the state. Truckee fielded swimmers in all events whereas Fallon didn’t race in three events in the boys division and four in the girls.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Kage Oyler, Zachary Koenig, Michael Liston and Brody Reynolds won the race in 2 minutes, 2.83 seconds. Koenig won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.08, and Reynolds won the 100 free in 1:02.44 followed by William McLean in second in 1:10.37.

Reynolds finished fourth in the 200 free in 2:27.76, and Oyler was sixth in 3:02.51. Liston finished third in the 50 free in 27.32 and third in the 100 fly in 1:06.47 followed by McLean in fourth in 1:13. Koenig finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.02 followed by Oyler in 1:28.29. The team of Liston, McLean, Reynolds and Koenig finished second in the 400 relay in 4:08.26.

For the girls, Fallon won four contested events starting with the 200 medley relay team of Gracie Cosman, Miranda Reeder, Evelyn Lott and Katelen Helton finishing in 2:23.81. Helton, Cosman and Reeder finished first through third in the 50 free in 29.90, 30.04 and 34.41. The 200 relay team of Reeder, Lott, Cosman and Helton won the race in 2:07.97. Lott won the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.98.

Truckee’s depth led to a big win over Fallon as the Wolverines entered multiple teams in each of the relay events and had as many as six swimmers compete in the individual events.
