Churchill County School District Trustee Tricia Strasdin submitted her resignation on Monday, effective immediately.

According to the Churchill County School District Superintendent Derild Parsons, due to Strasdin’s resignation, there is a vacancy on the school board. Details on filling the vacant trustee position will be released when they become available.

“We want to express our gratitude for the eight years Tricia Strasdin served as a member of the Churchill County School District  Board of Trustees,” Parsons said in a letter. “Her time, energy, and passion have been invaluable assets to our district, and we are grateful for her contributions during her tenure.”

Strasdin, who has served for two terms on the Board of Trustees, opted not to run for re-election for a third and final term in March. The Fallon native and Churchill County High School graduate is currently a teacher in the Lyon County School District, but is applying to work for the  Churchill County School District. The law prohibits her from teaching and being on the school board for the same district.

The Lahontan Valley News reached out to Strasdin later in the day after the school district released its statement.

“In recent weeks, I learned that there is no ethical issue with me applying in Churchill County, provided I step away from the Board,” she told the LVN. “So that’s what I did. I sincerely enjoyed my time on the Board, the experience I gained is invaluable. I’ll miss that work.”

Strasdin said she’s proud to serve on the school board while commuting every day to Fernley to work “in the trenches” and earning her master’s degree in education.

“It has always been my goal to pursue a position in administration,” she added.
