Letter: Disaster can happen anywhere

After six-plus years of raging wildfires, the areas of Portola, Chico, Paradise, Quincy, and all other towns in that part of Northern California have suffered extensively from loss of life, homes, hazardous smoke for most of the summers and more. And now the Park Fire is threatening them. Even here in Carson City and Reno we have also suffered from heavy smoke during the Dixie, Cal Dor, and other fires.

Truth is, there is no safe place or perhaps affordable place to move any longer. Rents are so much higher than before, building material is more expensive than ever, builders are hard to find, and insurance companies are dropping some or all of their coverage in certain areas.

We can pray and donate for those who are once again going through very hard, trying times. The firefighters in heavy, hot gear working hour after hour in scorching temperatures, risking their lives to keep us safe or save our homes, please pray for them. Pray for the local sheriff and his team in these fire-stricken areas like Sheriff Korey Honea of Paradise, California and for all law enforcement and public servants.

A disaster can happen anywhere at anytime. Be grateful for today!
