It’s a green-and-white weekend in Fallon.

After months of planning for the 10th annual All Community Reunion, executive secretary Debra Clifford is ready to see the hard work come to fruition for this weekend’s event.

According to Clifford, who is also a graduate of Churchill County High School, the reunion will honor the classes of Churchill County High School and bring the community together for an afternoon and evening of fun.

“We’re excited to see the classes here,” Clifford said. “We’ll have all the classes here from the 1970s and many others.

In a tradition dating back to 2014 when the first all-community reunion was held, Clifford said Fallon Mayor Ken Tedford will honor the graduates from the Class of 1964 who are celebrating their 60th reunion. Clifford said the class members, who have a special tent designated for them at the reunion, will gather, and then at 6 p.m., Tedford will begin recognizing the class members.

Clifford said the Class of 1974 is also reaching a milestone when students graduated 50 years ago. Other students from the classes of 1984, 1994, 2004 and 2014 will also be attending.

A special place of honor has been designated for students who graduated in the 1950s and before. Not only are former students invited, but the students’ parents and siblings, teachers, friends and community members are also encouraged to attend.

Although the reunion will stretch for three days, Clifford said the main activities are on Saturday. Normally, she said many classes use Friday to have dinner together or gather to reminisce about their school days. Some classes may use Sunday as a family day.

If classes aren’t meeting on Friday, she said a 7 p.m. concert at the Fallon Theatre features River Rogue band.

Saturday begins with a free breakfast at the Oats Park Arts Center’s Lariat Patio and a Show-n-Shine Car Show and antique tractors display in front of the center. Clifford said the classes should begin setting up their tents or reunion areas sometime after 2 p.m. on Saturday, but most of the students and Greenwave supporters will arrive between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

In addition to the classes, Clifford said the Greenwave Hall of Fame will be selling shirts and informing graduates about the program which honors former student athletes, coaches and contributors

Clifford said visitors to Oats Park are encouraged to bring their own chairs, and some classes will have tents set up. Each class except the honored lasses are responsible for their own tents. Clifford said attendees will be able to purchase food, ice cream, coffee, beer and wine, after 4 p.m., or they may pack a picnic. Extra parking will be available at E.C. Best Elementary School.

The evening caps off with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. with Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley. Reunion attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or a blanket for the show.

The reunion began in 2014 as a result of Fallon’s involvement with Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, and one of the events that spawned out of the planning was inviting Greenwave classes to have their reunions at Oats Park. Over the past decade, the event has progressed from a small number of classes to more than 30.

Many open houses are scheduled for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon, visitors will be able to tour the Cottage Schools, the Douglass House, the Fallon Police Department and the Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department. They may also visit the Fallon City Hall and chat with Mayor Ken Tedford.

The Churchill County Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the historic Fallon Theatre will also have tours of our historic theatre between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Community karaoke follows from 2-4 p.m.

The Frey Ranch Distillery tours are from noon to 4 p.m.

For those who want to splash in the pool from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a free swim at the city pool and the splash pad area are planned.
