The eight annual Outlaw Flat-track series returns to Fuji Park on Aug. 23 and 24.
On Friday, Aug. 23, it will be the fire/police benefit race where Robert Hansen, the event’s promoter, and company have raised more than $20,000 over the past three years.
Hansen said this year’s fundraising cause will be to benefit local FMX rider Matt Buyten, who was paralyzed in a FMX crash in late June in Colorado.
Buyten was close with Hansen’s son, Ryan, and the rest of his family.
“I’d like to make a big deal out of it,” said Hansen. “If I could get a couple hundred more people in there, that’s even more money we could raise for Matt.”
This year, the plan is to collect funds from T-shirt sales, rider entries fees and donations in order to help Buyten.
The last several years have raised furds for Tamarack fire, local police officers and local high schools.
Most of the racers come from out of town and will be competing for a purse of nearly $20,000.
Tickets are available for purchase at the game for $35. Kids 12-and-under get in for free.
Gates open Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7 p.m.
Amateur classes run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. while Thursday will feature a practice session from 3 to 7 p.m.
