Jim Barbee, the Churchill County manager since 2018, is this month’s breakfast speaker hosted by the Churchill Entrepreneurial Development Association.

Barbee was first appointed county manager in April 2018, replacing Eleanor Lockwood who retired. The Douglas High School graduate is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county. Under his watch, the county, along with other agencies, built the Rafter 3C Arena and complex refurbished existing facilities at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.
During his career, Barbee has worked on policy issues related to agriculture, natural resources, health, education and nutrition.
Prior to coming to Churchill County, Barbee served as director of the Nevada Department of Agriculture. Barbee worked on policy issues with both the Nevada State Board of Education and the Nevada Legislature. He has served on the National FFA Board of Directors and Foundation Board of Trustees and is a former secondary agriculture educator with a certificate as a Certified Public Manager (CPM).
Barbee also was with the Nevada Department of Education for 11 years where he managed millions in grants while a supervisor in career and technical education.
Barbee has a master’s of agriculture science, agriculture education from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a bachelor’s of science in animal science from California State University at Chico.
