Dayton man arrested for driving over 100 mph

Monday,  Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies in Dayton responded to a report of a motorist on a green Kawasaki motorcycle traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 50 in Mound House at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Deputies attempted to stop the driver and he failed to yield to their emergency lights and sirens. The driver of the motorcycle, later identified as Dayton resident Alejandro Mendez, drove recklessly throughout Dayton, ran multiple red lights, stop signs, and drove on the wrong side of the highway, according to the release. Deputies cornered him on a dead end street and took him into custody.

A records check through dispatch confirmed the motorcycle was reported stolen from Carson City.

Charges against Mendez may include: felony eluding; possession of a stolen motor vehicle; reckless endangerment to the public; aggressive driving; reckless driving; driving with a suspended license; obstructing/resisting arrest.

Bail is $37,250
