The Fallon City Council approved licenses and heard a summary of the Fallon Police Department June report during two meetings last week.

At a special meeting Aug. 23, the council approved Ismael Avila-Diaz for a drinking establishment liquor license and a retail establishment liquor license for Fajitas Gourmet LLC. Avila-Diaz aims to open the Mexican and American restaurant Sept. 15 at 125 S. Maine St., formerly home to Restaurante Don Julio.

During a regular meeting Aug. 20 the council approved Anne-Marie Rives for a retail establishment liquor license for Family Dollar store at 1875 W. Williams Ave.

Chief of Police Ron Wenger presented a summary of his department’s activity during June. Officers responded to 723 total calls for service and made 33 arrests, assisted with 16 traffic accidents and issued 79 traffic citations and warnings.

Special detail duty included providing traffic control on Maine Street for a fountain dye recognizing the Greenwave track and field, swimming and girls’ softball team champions. Officers also attended Churchill Animal Protection Society’s “Bark in the Park” fundraiser and the “Touch a Truck” event to kick off the Summer Reading Program at Churchill County Library.

Volunteers in Police Services donated 170 hours to the agency. The Fallon Animal Shelter took in 54 animals from the county, 42 from the city and one from tribal lands.
