A man was shot and killed by Carson City Sheriff’s deputies after allegedly stabbing his wife in south Carson City on Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

At 10:50 p.m., CCSO responded to reports of a domestic battery with a deadly weapon. A teenager called 911 stating that his father had stabbed his mother multiple times, the release said. The juvenile also reported his father had cut himself severely and was “almost beyond help.”

When deputies arrived, the family had been able to escape the man and the Koontz Lane home, according to the release. Deputies located the woman, with multiple stab wounds, and two juveniles. She was in serious condition when she was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect and, after the suspect failed to respond, deputies entered the home at 11:15 p.m. An altercation took place and the man was shot and killed by two deputies, the release said.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in accordance with established protocols.

The identities of the victim, suspect and officers is being withheld. Both juveniles were safe and unharmed.
