CAPS: The miracle of the Christmas cat

Star is a sweet 1-year-old Pitbull-mix with an adorable star shape on her head. Housetrained, she loves people, responds to a whistle, and knows how to sit. Star could be a basketball star because she can jump very high and needs a good secure fence.

Dear reader, Christmas can be a joyful time but for people who have lost a loved one, it can be very lonely. I was recently told an uplifting story about loss and finding furry love. It seems that after the death of this woman’s spouse, life had little meaning and celebrating holidays seemed empty.

An avid gardener, she spent time outside cleaning flowerbeds getting ready for winter. One afternoon she heard a meow but did not see a cat. This same scene happened day after day and each day she would look for the cat to no avail. In fact, her little dog investigated but found nothing.

Then, late one morning as she bent over a flowerbed not paying attention, she felt a soft brush against her cheek. Surprised, she discovered a magnificent longhaired cat looking her straight in the eyes. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The cat came and went daily until one day he stayed.

The cat now spends his time following and cuddling with his new friends. When I spoke with the pets’ parent, she was putting a tree up and decorating for the holidays. She is happy the cat has brought new meaning into her life. To quote her, “I sit on the bench with the cat on one side of me and dog on the other. It is our little family.”

There is nothing to compare with the love of a BFF.

I hope that you are enjoying the holidays and your life is rich and full of blessings. Please know that the entire CAPS community thanks each and every one for the donations and support you have shown us. We have adorable dogs and cats for adoption who are looking for a pet parent to care for. Do you need a Christmas miracle? Come meet our guests.

Merry Christmas!
