Two authors from the Nevada News Group’s World War II history book, "Legacies of the Silver State: Nevada Goes to War," will be among the authors at a book signing Saturday.
The Reno Public Market is hosting Deck the Halls from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with special hours on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Retired Nevada newspaper editor Steve Ranson and co-author Kenneth Beaton will be at the Reno Public Market.
Over the decades, Ranson, Beaton and David C. Henley, a former Los Angeles newspaper reporter and owner of the Lahontan Valley News in Fallon, interviewed scores of World War II veterans to learn more about them and how they helped the war effort. Additional reporters have also written about the World War II heroes — including Kaleb Roedel’s in-depth stories on Native American veterans.
The book made its debut four years ago with all proceeds benefitting Honor Flight Nevada. To date, the book has raised more than $29,000 for the organization that flies veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the nation’s memorials and monuments built in their honor.
The authors’ interviews include prisoners of war, survivors of the Nazi concentration camps and veterans who remember in detail where they were and what they did more than 80 years ago. Many Nevada veterans who flew to Pearl Harbor in February 2020 as guests of Honor Flight Nevada have had their stories documented.
If readers are unable to attend the book signing and want to buy a copy of the book, they can go to www.nevadaveteransjournal.com and select purchase. The cost $25 each and includes shipping.
