The Fallon City Council approved a new deputy public works director Dec. 10 during a special meeting by confirming Mayor Ken Tedford’s appointment of Erik Fain.
The council also established Fain’s annual salary at $103,000.
Fain grew up in Fernley, moved to Fallon for a short time in ninth grade and then graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, California. Throughout his youth, sports were an integral part of his life. It was there that he learned the importance of teamwork and saw the direct results of a quality team.
In August 2013 he met his wife, Whytnee, while visiting Fallon. They were married in 2016, the same year he began his career at Fallon’s transfer station as a maintenance worker II. He made the decision at that time to take advantage of the career opportunities available to him through the city. He earned his water distribution certification, transferred to the water and streets division in 2017, and in 2021 he was assigned to the lead position.
In his spare time Fain is currently pursuing a degree at Western Governors University and is a firefighter with the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department. He also enjoys coaching his son’s sports teams and hunting and fishing with his family.
“I enjoy serving the public and making sure that the city of Fallon is taken care of,” Fain said. “I take great pride in that. I look forward to serving the citizens of Fallon and giving them the best service possible.”
