The Greenwave boys and girls basketball teams split last week’s games against a pair of 3A West foes.
After falling to South Tahoe on the road last Tuesday, Fallon’s boys team came back to defeat North Valleys on Friday at the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium. The girls defeated South Tahoe but fell to North Valleys.
Both teams compete in tournaments this weekend with the boys playing in the Rail City Classic at Sparks High School while the girls are in Las Vegas. 3A East play begins next week in Elko County.
The boys shot 57 percent from the floor in an 82-62 win over North Valleys.
Senior Trevor Hyde led the team in scoring with 16 points on 89 percent shooting and pulled down four rebounds, and sophomore Calin Anderson scored 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and had nine rebounds. Junior Barry Mitchell added 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to complete the double-double. Junior Wyatt Peek scored nine points, and senior Koa Nihoa and sophomore Garret Helton each had eight. Nihoa hit a pair of 3’s.
The Sorensens – senior Kylan and junior Braden – and senior Colin Shishido each had two steals, and Helton recorded a team-high two blocks.
Three nights earlier, Fallon shot 30 percent in a 64-49 loss to South Tahoe at the lake.
Braden Sorensen led the team with 18 points and six rebounds, Mitchell scored 12 and Anderson added nine. Anderson, Hyde and sophomore Caleb Edgmon grabbed four rebounds, and junior Wyatt Peek had three.
Anderson and Hyde each had three steals and five different players had an assist. Mitchell finished with two blocks.
The girls took down South Tahoe, 42-27, scoring in double digits in all but the third quarter. Fallon followed with a 48-41 loss to North Valleys.
