The Carson City School Board took time to recognize band students from Carson High School during its Jan. 23 meeting. Freshman Jacob Blandford, French horn, senior Drea Cabral, clarinet, senior Nathan Parsons, trumpet, and senior Tessa Payan, percussion, all earned a spot in All-State Band, which comprises the top band students from across the state of Nevada. Additionally, Parsons and Cabral are both celebrating their sixth consecutive year being selected for an all-state ensemble.
The four All-State Band students will represent Carson High and the Carson City School District at the All-State Music Festival in Reno today through Saturday, Feb. 3. The concert is at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Nightingale Concert Hall on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. Click here to purchase tickets.
In addition to these four, other Carson High band students earned top honors as auditions were held for the Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association (NZNMEA) Honor Band. More than half of all Honor Band students from northern Nevada selected were from Carson High. Out of the 62 total students selected across seven counties in Northern Nevada, 33 were from Carson High School.
The Honor Band and All-State students will participate in regional Northern Zone Honor Band Feb. 15 and 16 with the Northern Zone Honor Band concert being held 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Carson City Community Center. Admission is free.
