Join the Fallon Elks for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at 93 W. Center St.
The event will feature karaoke and guests will be served meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Cost is $12. The public is invited.
Free radon kits
The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Nevada Radon Education program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans through Feb. 29, while supplies last.
Radon test kits are available statewide at Extension offices including the Fallon office on Sheckler Road and partner locations. A list can be found at https://extension.unr.edu/radon/test-kit-locations.aspx.

Great Basin Bull Sale
The Great Basin Bull Sale returns to the Rafter 3C Arena in mid-February with four days of events of interest to any rancher, breeder, dog-lover or general livestock enthusiast.
The Great Basin Bull Sale Feb. 17 begins at 1 p.m. at the Rafter 3C Arena with the where discerning bull buyers can select from a large selection of performance-tested and range bulls for purchase.
Need to use age-advantaged bulls or high-efficiency genetics? Both will be available. The bull sale event is also free to attend.
Other events precede the bull sale. Come down to the Rafter 3C Arena on Feb. 14 and 15 to watch skilled working stock dogs compete with their handlers in the Mountain States Stock Dog Association dog trials, to kick off the week’s events. Start time is 7:30 a.m. each day and admission to the stands is free.
The Fallon Ranch Hand Rodeo hosts a hot iron branding event on Feb. 16 at 8 a.m. Watch teams of men, women and families compete for a check in the lifestyle competition. This event is free to attend.
Join us and the Rusty Canteen bar for a social hour in the arena on Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. Follow that with the Great Basin Bull Sale tri-tip dinner served at 5:30 p.m. Finish the night with dancing and a performance featuring country music singer Chad Bushnell, who was recently awarded “Modern Country Song of the Year” at the Josie Music Awards.
Tickets for the dinner and dance are $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under and must be purchased in advance online or with cash at the Community Activities/Parks & Recreation Office, 325 Sheckler Road, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The expiration date for discount certificates offered in conjunction with book sales and author signings at His Inspirations on Small Business Saturday have been extended until Valentine’s Day.
Legacies of the Silver State: Nevada Goes to War is a book about World War II veterans with Nevada ties. The book was written by Nevada News Group journalists Ken Beaton, David C. Henley and Steve Ranson. Proceeds are given to Honor Flight Nevada.
Youth baseball signups
Fallon Youth Baseball signups have begun and will be open until Feb. 23
The program includes T-ball, Rookies, Minors, Majors and Babe Ruth. Coaches are also needed.
A skills drat for Minors and Majors is Feb. 24. Opening day is March 23.

Creative notecards
Child Development Center children ages 1 to 5 at Western Nevada College have created notecards which are available for the public to purchase through WNC Foundation.
By purchasing these notecards, individuals are contributing to the educational initiatives, programs and activities offered at the CDC.
Each package of notecards sells for $15 and includes two notecards for each piece of artwork for a total of 12 of cards.

Pennington Life Center
Stop by the Pennington Life Center in February for the many activities planned for the month.
Cards, crafts, exercise, games, dressing up for Super Bowl and Mardi Gras, discussion on voting, welfare representative available to answer questions, Medicare representative and computer assistance are just a few of the activities and resources available at the Pennington Life Center in February. Rotary meets every Tuesday at noon at the Stockman’s Steakhouse. Each meeting usually has a speaker. Guests are welcome.
Churchill County Library
See what the Churchill County Library is offering in February and dive into a variety of events and programming. The library will be closed Feb. 19 to observe Presidents Day.

• Spice Club in February gets spicy with cobanero chili. Pick up some at the library desk and share your culinary creations on social media and tag the library!
• Sen. Rosen’s office representative will be at the library on Feb. 8 for “office hours” at 1 p.m. Stop by and let the senator’s staff know what your concerns are.

• Teens: spend “Anti-Valentine’s Day” at the library and indulge yourself with anti-Valentine’s Day crafts on Feb. 14 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

NRCS financial and technical assistance
The U.S Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering financial and technical assistance to help agricultural producers apply conservation practices through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Agricultural Management Assistance Program (AMA).
Approximately $17 million is available to producers through EQIP and AMA.
Applications for EQIP and AMA must be received by the local field office before 4 p.m. on March 29. Any applications received after March 29 will be considered for funding during the next funding cycle. Eligibility for applications will be determined by April 26 and money will be obligated by June 14.
